Rehearsal Room 1, 4th Floor, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion
Join the Opera League as Dr. Kristi Brown Montesano examines Mozart's "Così fan tutte," a brilliant comic opera that explores the complex nature of love, fidelity, and human nature through a provocative social experiment. The plot revolves around two young officers who are challenged by their older friend to test the fidelity of their fiancées. Under the guise of being called to military service, the men disguise themselves as exotic strangers and attempt to seduce each other's partners.
A public scholar, educator, and musicologist, Dr. Kristi Brown-Montesano served as Chair of Music History at the Colburn Conservatory from 2003-2022 and for the past three years has served as a Lecturer in Musicology at UCLA’s Herb Alpert School of Music.
A respected opera scholar, Dr. Brown-Montesano's book, Understanding the Women of Mozart’s Operas—originally published by the University of California Press in 2007—was reissued in paperback in 2021, responding to a growing new readership interested in a fresh, feminist critique of opera culture and reception.
There will be a light reception at 11:30AM and the seminar will begin around noon. Members rate is $25 and Non-Members pay $35. Guests should check-in with security at the Artist Entrance on Grand Avenue (near 1st Street)
